As a community of learners, we recognise that Primary education should address academic, personal, social, cultural and athletic development and through the PYP Learner Profile we strive to be successful in all of these areas.

The Primary School Day typically comprises seven lessons, from 7.40am until 2.40pm each day. Break and Lunch occur mid-morning and from 12.00pm respectively at which time students have time to eat as well as to enjoy some social time with friends.

Ramadan timings (anticipate to begin 23rd March TBC) Monday to Thursday – 08:00am – 13:00pm    Friday – 08:00am – 12:00pm

Please note: Students may be dropped from 07:45am in order to begin learning at 08:00am

We firmly believe in the holistic development of our students. Take a look at our Co-Curricular Activities pages and you will see evidence of a wide range of activities, from Choir to Rugby, Interior Design to Arabic Reading, all intended to enrich the school programme and provide opportunities to extend participation in school life beyond the classroom.

Student Leadership

Students in the Primary School have several opportunities to develop leadership skills.  The Student Council and the House System offer multi-faceted roles and events for students to inculcate not just leadership qualities but also team work skills.

Student Council

The purpose of the Student Council at DIAB is to develop student leadership, student voice, ownership, service and engagement. The council comprises a number of different committees. These include:

  • Service Learning
  • Sustainability
  • Sports
  • School Environment
  • Peer Support
  • Arts and Public Relations

Buddies

Each class within Dubai International Academy - Al Barsha Primary has a buddy class from a different grade. The classes share academic and social experiences and learn about building relationships within the school environment. Children across each ‘buddy class’ will be paired together to collaborate on activities and help and support each other. Classes generally meet for 30 minutes once a week.

Friendship Ambassadors

Grade 3, 4, and 5 students are given an opportunity to offer their time as Friendship Ambassadors in the Primary School. The role includes creating a nurturing and friendly environment, including all students in play and games in all areas of our school. Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha has zero tolerance for bullying and promotes a safe, happy and inclusive environment where all students feel safe and accepted. Members are nominated by teaching staff and meet weekly.

Primary School Sports

The Sports Department strives to have its athletes reach their full potential in all areas of the sports experience academically, socially, and thorough the competitions. Athletes are held to the sports code of conduct and also to academic requirements.

As your child becomes involved in the sports program at DIAB, they will experience some of the most rewarding moments in their life.

Student athletes are striving to succeed in two demanding areas simultaneously- academics and sports. Student athletes have the responsibility of developing and working toward an educational goal as well as training in their sport. The Sports Department encourages and assists student athletes in maintaining academic eligibility so they can continue to participate in sports.
